Three of our five indoor cats love to go into our little cat run. They know instinctively when it's time to come in from the heat. We have a special cover over the top which screens out the sun. But they do get the sun from the sides in the morning. When they come inside for the day, could they be coming in from having enough sun as much as from the heat? Here's an interesting article on cats, sunburn and cancer.

Since we live in a tropical country, our human shaded 3/4s of our yard so we could lie in some sun spots when we want. Purrs!
Hi Debra,
Good question in your post and good article that you linked to - I read both.
Yes, a cat might come in once it's tired of the sun or it might come in because it gets too hot.
When cats get hot, they don't feel well and they get thirsty just like we do. The sun and the heat can easily be the cause.
It's good to have fresh water at the ready for when they come back inside.
I did like the article you linked to. I just have one objection. It mentioned that you can put sun block on your cat.
I wouldn't recommend that since they lick themselves and would like the sun block, which is toxic to cats.
Otherwise there was some good information in the article.
Thanx,
