Smokey Is Gone. We are So Sad.

On May 5th, Smokey (our Lymphoma kitty) was getting worse. He looked distant in his eyes. (more so than what this photo shows). His movements were spastic. He was not doing things yet that the vet said would indicate loss of quality of life. Yet he was half the weight he was when we rescued him in July of 2015. Right after we took him into our home, we found out he had Feline HIV. Until the Lymphoma, he was never sick with respiratory and other illness we were warned could come from the FHIV.

All-in-all he seemed to be ready to go. So we had him euthanized on May 7th. We have put down many rescues over the years. But we were not anxious to do this. We nursed him along with shots from the vet to help him last a little longer. It is always so distressing. So difficult.

Of course, now we know he is not suffering. And we miss him so much.

Though he had almost seven wonderful years with you, it can't seem like enough. When you meet him once more, you'll never part again. Godspeed, Smokey.

Smokey has that unique look of a special older cat. The kind that catches your heart and doesn't let go. I know what you mean about fighting his corner as long as you felt he had something worth living for and the health to do it.

Bless you Smokey, fly free.
