Update on Smokey with Lymphoma

Here is an update on Smokey, the indoor rescue cat we have who has Lymphoma.

His body is supposed to absorb nutrients from the food being processed in his intestines. But the cancer interferes with this absorption because the cancer is n his intestines. He loses small amounts of weight every month. The vet says he will probably lose weight monthly for the rest of his life. She suspects he won't live for more than another year and a half or so. He is only about 8 or 9 years old.

We take him to a vet for monthly shots (including one with nutrients) which we hope are helping him. Additionally, we give him an appetite stimulant in hopes he will continue to be interested in food. Usually he only eats small amounts of food.

He gets quite exhausted by the end of each day. The good news is that he is usually rather animated during the day. He continues to do all the things he was doing before he got sick. I just hope and pray he is not suffering.

It is sad, but you are doing everything you can for him. If he is doing everything he used to during the day I don't think he can be suffering. He seems to be resting during the evenings ready for another day. I hope your vet is wrong and he lives longer than another year and a half, but he will let you know when he has ha enough.

You are doing the best for him and he really does appreciate it. Hugs to you both from all of us.
