This is Smokey, one of the newer homeless cats we have been caring for. It turns out he is tame, not feral, which we learned thanks to my husband working tirelessly to build a relationship with this dear one. We know he could not have a caring owner now since he is always ravenously hungry.
Smokey's disposition is so incredibly sweet! He now nuzzles each of us, seeming to crave affection. He lets us pick him up without any resistance. He has never bitten or scratched either of us.
As of yesterday, we brought him inside. Today, we went to the vet to have him tested for nasty diseases, treat him for ear mites if needed and other steps required for adoption. We had hoped to get him into the Kitty City adoption program, run by United Animal Friends in the PetCo in Prescott.
He does not have feline leukemia, but he does have feline HIV (FIV). So it is doubtful we will be able to get him adopted through the local agency.

First off thank you for your kind comment about our Ivy. Secondly Ivy was FIV+ and never gave it to any of the other cats. It would have to be a serious deep bite wound to transfer the virus to another cat. That would be unlikely if Smokey is neutered and friendly. In having Ivy with us indoors for 10 years, I find that it is rare that an FIV_ cat will give the virus to others. Smokey should be indoor only for his own health to keep him from being exposed to other diseases. If I can answer any questions, let me know.
dood...sorree bout yur diagnosis but we noe ewe can live a happee long long life ...we haza pal who lives with two brotherz who be FIV + & other then roo teen chex upz...him iz livin large & in charge & goin on 8 !!
N all kinds oh peepulz will adopt a FIV kitty...long as they noe a head oh time sew they iz knot catched un awares.....
but then... ya mite wanna just stay with mom deb any way... coz herz one awesum ladee ~~~

Smokey looks like a sweetheart! As the others have said, there is no reason why he shouldn't be adopted by a caring loving family and he can live a long and happy life! Sending purrs that he finds that home xx
I agree with everyone else, FIV is just something that scares humans, but it's no big deal.

Smokey has a sweet face. It sounds like he has an equally sweet temperament so his FIV shouldn't cause a problem. I hope he gets adopted.

We're sorry to read of Smokey's diagnosis, but we are sure he will get lots of love from you. Thank you for visiting us when we lost Julie, it meant a lot to hear from all our friends. We're sorry to had taken so long to write, it upset our mom to think or write about Julie. Purrs and keep up the good work.
